Officers of the Gambia Police Force in Old Yundum are investigating a suspected case of murder involving the death of a woman in her 60s. The public relations officer of the Gambia Police Force, Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo, said preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was assaulted by a neighbour, one 31-year-old Kemo Manneh. “Reportedly, the suspect attempted to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl, and the victim intervened, leading to her subsequent brutal assault,” Police PRO Sisawo said. He said the victim was evacuated and rushed to hospital where she was admitted, but eventually succumbed to her injuries on Monday, March 31st 2025.
“The minor was also taken to the hospital, where a medical examination confirmed that there was no penetration,” he said. The police further reported that the suspect has been arrested and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
In a statement, the Gambia Police Force assures the public of its firm commitment to ensure that justice is served and will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
