The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has charged AlagieJobe, a land dealer, with impersonation.
The case was brought before the Brikama Magistrate’s Court.
AlagieJobe was charged with two (2) criminal charges. Personation is a legal term meaning to assume the identity of another person with the intent to deceive.
On count one, AlagieJobe was charged with “personating public officer” contrary to section 93 of the Criminal Code. The charge attracts a 3-year jail term. The prosecution alleged that AlagieJobe sometime in 2019 in Farato and Bafuloto villages, falsely represented himself to be a person employed in the public service as Alkalo when he knew that the said title was untrue.
On count two, Jobe was charged with making false documents. The charge also attracts a 3-year imprisonment term when convicted. The prosecutionaslo alleged that AlagieJobe in 2019 at Farato and Bafuloto villages prepared land transfer documents without Authority or lawful excuse when he knew that the said documents were forged.
The case came before Magistrate Fofana on 16 November 2023.
Police prosecutors Assistant Superintendent Buteh Suwaneh and B. Bangura appeared for the IGP while the accused person was present but was not represented.
The charge sheet was read to him and translated into Wollof, with Jobe pleading not guilty to the two criminal charges against him.
Jobe was granted bail by the trial magistrate. The bail conditions were two Gambian sureties, which must be residents of the West Coast Region.
The case was adjourned to Wednesday, 6 December 2023.
