Investigators of the Gambia Police Force (GPF) on Sunday evening informed Foroyaa that they are waiting for a postmortem to be carried out on the charred body of someone found in the bushes of Bonto village.

The police said the inquest would help to ascertain or know the cause of death of the person is a myth.

The unidentified body said to be that of a male, was discovered in the bushes of Bonto in the West Coast Region. The state of the body sparked speculations that he was burned to death.

Cadet ASP Binta Njie, the spokesperson of the GPF, said detectives are actively looking into the matter as they await a post-mortem to be performed before they could officially determining the cause of death.

“As of now, investigation is still ongoing,’’ she says.

Meanwhile, officers at the Mandinba police station where the case was first reported on 30 January 2024, disclosed in a recent press conference that they believe the body could have been in the bush where it was found, for quite a long time and started to decay, rather than being burnt as perceived by many.

The police have not found anything suspicious so far. They however indicate that investigations into the case continue and they have not also ruled out the possibility of murder.
