Police Arrest Man Found with Suspected Cocaine

The Tourism Security Unit (TSU) of the Gambia Police Force, during its routine patrols, arrested a foreign national found in possession of two (2) blocks of suspected cocaine on Friday, 12th of July 2024.

The man was handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of the Gambia (DLEAG).

“This arrest is a result of the TSU’s heightened vigilance and commitment to curbing crime/drug-related activities in key Tourist areas. Preliminary tests have confirmed the substances as cocaine; further establishing the charges against the suspect,” Mr Ousman Saidyba, the Public Relations Officer of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of the Gambia (DLEAG) stated.

In a similar but separate report, the DLEAG apprehended five (5) people found in possession of three hundred and two pills of ecstasy and other varying types and quantities of prohibited drugs concealed in a charcoal bag.

Mr Saidyba said a 27-year-old Malang Fatty, a Senegalese and resident of Siliti Village was arrested at Manduar Village by the Brikama DLEAG station on the 9th of July 2024 with seven big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa which is concealed in a cement paper, placed in blue and brown bag and further placed inside an empty red rice bag respectfully.

He said 23-year-old Muhammed Johnson, a resident of Banjul and a businessman by profession was arrested at Pinyai by the Banjul DLEAG on the 8th of July 2024 with one wrap of suspected cannabis sativa which was concealed in white papers.

A 42-year-old Omar Jammeh, a resident of Serrekunda and a baker by profession was arrested at Mandinaba Check Point by the Mandinaba DLEAG station on the 10th of July 2024 with four (4) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa which was concealed in cement papers and placed inside a bag of charcoal with a commercial vehicle, he said.

PRO Saidyba said 28-year-old Alieu Badjan, a resident of Ghana Town, and 24-year-old Musa Njie, a resident of Kanifing were arrested by the Brusubi DLEAG station at Brufut on the 10th of July 2024 with three hundred and two pills of ecstasy, seven wraps of suspected cannabis skunk and two wraps of suspected cannabis resin (hashish) which were all concealed in transparent plastic bags. 

He said all the suspects are currently in their custody while investigations continue.
