The Gambia Police Force (GPF) on Thursday 25 January 2024 indicated that they have arrested a 47-year-old driver for failing to stop after allegedly hitting a police officer on duty at the Sukuta-Jabang traffic check point. According to the Deputy Police PRO, they received information of an incident which happened at 18:05hs involving one Amadou Tijan Sowe, who was driving a vehicle with registration number WCR 5846 C and failed to stop after allegedly hitting a police officer on duty, even though a warning shot was fired in the air for him to do so.

“Following a brief chase, the driver was successfully arrested and is presently in police custody awaiting legal proceedings that will be initiated against him, before facing charges in court,” the Deputy Police PRO stated.

The Police therefore urged the public especially drivers, to prioritize adherence to traffic regulations particularly speed limits within residential areas.
