Police Arrest Alleged Murderer of Twenty-Year-Old in Banjul

Information from the Gambia Police Force (GPF) indicates that agents of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the GPF have arrested the alleged murderer of a twenty-year-old male at the Banjul Ferry Terminal Police Station, on Tuesday, 19 November 2024. 

According to the Police, the alleged murder incident happened when the victim, a 20-year-old male and resident of Tallinding, had an altercation between him and a truck driver in Banjul on the 18th of November 2024; that the alleged murder suspect surrendered himself at the Ferry Terminal Police Station in Banjul, and explained that the victim attempted to break into his truck and he confronted and assaulted him because there was an amount of  D17,000 cash in the truck; that he told the Police that during the altercation, the victim lost consciousness and was later pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Further information from the Police indicates that forensic experts visited the crime scene on Monday 19th November 2024, to reconstruct the incident, and that initial observations revealed a bruise bloodstained back on the head of the deceased. 

The Police said the suspect has since been charged with murder and remains in their custody, and said the body of the deceased has been taken to the EFSTH Hospital pending post-mortem analysis to further confirm the cause of death.

The Police urge the public to remain calm as investigations into the matter continue.
