The Gambia Police Intervention Unit (PIU), on Wednesday April 24,2024, organized a ceremony at its headquarters in Kanifing to celebrate the newly promoted officers of the Unit from the position of Police Constable (PC), to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

The Acting Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Ebrima Bah, who represented the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the event, commended the newly promoted officers and emphasized to them that the true essence of policing is not a money-making enterprise, but a service to one’s country that is marked by sacrifice and dedication to duty.

“To whom much is given, much is expected,” AIGP Bah reminded the newly promoted officers, adding that the PIU is an elite unit of professional security officers with various specialties, and it is the main Unit that the GPF leadership relies upon in situations of crisis and emergencies.

“I love the PIU because I was once an officer of the PIU and as the adage goes: once a para, always a para. I am saying this because the first time I commanded a team was during my time at the PIU,” AIG Bah added.

Commissioner Adeline Basangeh of the PIU and Commissioner Lamin King Colley of the Mobile Traffic Unit, both thanked the Police leadership for promoting over two hundred personnel of the PIU, and eighty-eight personnel of the Mobile Traffic Unit respectively.

During the event, CP Basangeh emphasized the critical role of the PIU in maintaining peace and security, and called on the newly promoted officers to maintain the highest integrity and professionalism of their positions.

The ceremony was also attended by dignitaries including the Mayor of KMC, CP Pateh Jallow, and other service chiefs, as a moment of pride and motivation for the officers in reinforcing their commitment to serve their country with honor.
