Peoples’ Power in Action

80

Few people could have imagined that a Government that was so
entrenched as that of Jammeh could have been uprooted by the ballot ofGambians. This confirms that the power of the people is real. It is
therefore important for each Gambian to begin to realize that one is
in possession of power to elect or remove governments.
Governments must also be conscious of the fact that the people are
the determinants of their existence. Hence any efficient government
must begin by doing an inventory of what is available in each Ministry
and prepare a road map of how to address the needs and aspirations of
the people.
The health sector is a key area requiring immediate intervention
since it constitutes a life and death matter. Priority should be given
to those areas in the health sector whose neglect could result in
immediate loss of life.
