PDOIS Secretary General, Halifa Sallah yesterday informed media practitioners at a press conference that PDOIS will embark on a nationwide tour from the 20th to the 31st of October 2024.

He said during the tour the team will meet members, leaders of the party within regions as well as citizens of the country to engage them for a national conversation on the future of this country and what needs to be  done to enable the Gambian people to take charge of their country.

During the press conference, held at the party headquarters, the PDOIS Secretary General shared his thoughts on developments in the country.

He has just returned from a visit to London, invited as the keynote speaker at the AGM of the PDOIS European Branch which was held on Saturday, September 21 2024.

At the press conference, he maintained the state of the economy and the constitution building process as his political discourse but also touched on the media and current world affairs; Russia- Ukraine, Israeli-Palestinian conflict in focus. The full verbatim report of the press conference will be published in subsequent publications.

Halifa said the Gambia cannot carry itself in the world from an economic point of view because it does not have the money to import goods. The reason he said is because it is not producing what it needs and what it can export. The economy of this country will only work if all the economic sectors are productive, he insisted.

On the constitutional building process, he reminded that it is the people who are the makers of the Constitution and without one there cannot be a republic. The executive, he said, can only propose but the National Assembly can also dispose. He also touched on the Russia Ukraine; Israeli-Palestinian conflict as lack of world leadership to end it. On the media, he said journalists are expected to report in good faith and in the public interest. If however, something is written not based on facts, it should be countered by producing the facts.
