Deputies at the National Assembly on Monday, December 2, 2024, recommended the deduction of twenty-five million and four hundred thousand Dalasi (D25,400,000.00) from the budget estimated for the Office of the President for the 2025 fiscal year.
The deductions were made during the consideration of the 2025 budget estimates by the Committee of Supply in line with the recommendations made by the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) of the National Assembly.
Some of the key reductions that the lawmakers made as per the budget line under the Office of the President include the following:
- A total of D25 Million was estimated for this specific budget line, but during the consideration, it was proposed and agreed by the lawmakers to reduce it to D15 Million, meaning a deduction of D10 Million from the budget line;
- During the consideration stage, parliament also agreed to reduce a total of D1 Million on the maintenance of buildings and facilities within the budget line of the President’s Office;
- On the maintenance of miscellaneous expenses, a total of D1.5 Million was budgeted for the budget line, but the committee of supply resolved to reduce the amount to half a million Dalasi;
- On the budget line for training, a total of D2.5 million was estimated, but a total of half a million Dalasi was reduced from the amount;
- On social expenses, an amount of D5 million was reduced from D6 million allocated;
- An amount of D1 million was also deducted from the D3 million estimated for office equipment for the Office of the President;
- On furniture and fittings, a total of D200,000.00 was reduced leaving a final estimate of D2 million;
- A total of half million Dalasi was deducted from the purchase of fuel and lubricants, which is estimated at D3.5 million;
- On medals and insignia, a total of D1 million was deducted from the initial estimate of D5 million, leaving a final estimate of D4 million;
- A total of D3 Million has been budgeted, but a total of D500,000.00 was reduced from the amount leaving a final allocation of D2.5 Million for the upkeep of the residence of the Vice President.
Meanwhile, FPAC used D3 million of the said savings from the Office of the President and allocated it to other sectors, leaving a balance of D22,400,000.00. The committee of the whole house thus accepted the said reductions made on the various budget lines under the overall budget of the Office of the President.
