By Sulayman Bah Papa Bakary Gassama, the first Gambian to have refereed in a Papa Bakary GassamaFIFA World Cup, is set to officiate in the Egypt-Tunisia African Cup of Nations qualifier match today. Former African champions Egypt hosts fellow North African outfit Tunisia at the Cairo International Stadium. The match –for Gambian fans wishing to have another look of a referee so revered -begins 6pm local time. The Parophs lost their Group G opener 2-0 at home to the Taranga Lions of Senegal. It took two goals each from Mame Biram Diouf and Dam Ndoye to seal off victory for Senegal. Sitting bottom-placed without a point at Group G, Egypt under gaffer Shawky Garib, will hope things kick-start for them when they take on the Tunisians today after they missed out on Afcon last term. Gambia’s Gassama, who will be the center of focus, is on the brink of setting another record –to become the first Gambian referee to officiate in Qatar Stars League –following an agreement brokered between CAF and Qatar Football Federation.]]>
