Mr Pap Saine, the co-founder of The Point Newspaper, has been elected as Chairperson of the Newspaper Publishers Association of The Gambia (NEPA) at its annual general meeting (AGM) held at The Point Newspaper office in Westfield on Saturday, 9 September.
The association made this announcement in a press release.
Meanwhile, the release adds that the AGM also witnessed the election of Mr. Musa S. Sheriff, managing director of The Voice Newspaper as Secretary General, Mr Salla Jeng general manager of Standard Newspaper, as the treasurer and the proprietor of Standard Newspaper and former secretary general of the association, Mr Sheriff Bojang as a spokesperson.
In his report on the activities of NEPA, the outgoing Chairperson and managing editor of Foroyaa Newspaper Samuel Osseh Sarr also reported on the achievement of the association.
He stated that the establishment of the first Newspaper Publishers Association of The Gambia (NEPA) created a ‘working together environment’ for all members, facilitating them to benefit from the COVID-19 grant, which was an achievement.
However, he also stated that the print media faces the same challenges, particularly the increase in the cost of production, the statement reveals.
It indicated that Mr Pap Saine expressed his appreciation to NEPA members for electing him to lead the print media association, adding that the association is the first in the country’s media history.
The association was founded in 2018 with the first AGM bringing together all members of NEPA, namely; The Point Newspaper, Foroyaa Newspaper, The Standard Newspaper, The Voice Newspaper, and Daily Newspaper.
