One member of a secco committee in Upper River Region died and others injured in a motor vehicle accident involving Secco presidents and managers on Friday,19 January 2024.
The incident, which occurred on Friday evening, involved the secco president of Diabugu Batapa in Sandu, Tara Bah, who lost his life while his secco manager and the president Birif of Buying Point, Fusainey Darboe, are in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
A source told this medium that secco presidents across the country were urgently called to a meeting in Banjul by the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC) on Saturday, 20 January 2024.
“On Friday afternoon, management of GGC dispatched a message to the secco presidents across the country through their WhatsApp platform to attend an urgent meeting to be held on Saturday morning which means most of the secco presidents must travel at that particular Friday evening so as to catch up with the meeting on Saturday morning,” the source said.
The source added that Tara Bah, his secco manager Mr Gaye and the Birif secco president Fusainey Darboe boarded a seven-passenger vehicle ‘sett palass’ heading to the Kombos to catch up with the scheduled Saturday morning meeting, but unfortunately their vehicle was involved in an accident with another vehicle in Jarra. The accident resulted in the death of Tara Bah, leaving the other two in critical conditions at the EFST hospital in Banjul, the source told Foroyaa.
The GGC authorities, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
