The public had been informed that due to some logistical arrangements the conference of the OIC would be postponed till 2022. Foroyaa has been speaking to the authorities to find out the level of readiness for the conference, the venue of activities and the actual date of holding it. We are yet to get any answer clarifying such matters.
On the other hand, the state has entered into leased property in the name of national development to facilitate the building of a hotel which is said to be designed to host participants at the conference. It is important for the state to appear fully transparent in whatever it does. People are genuinely concerned that the state would pursue national interest when it takes over land leased to others.
It is therefore the duty of the president that in laying the foundation stone for the hotel that he confirms the status of the OIC conference. He should tell the Gambian people when the conference will take place in terms of date and venue. He should further highlight all the projects linked to the conference and assess the level of preparedness to complete them before the required date.
He should also announce the compensation offered to the persons whose land has been taken so that the public will be convinced that the national interest is being pursued.
