The WCR sport institution was tasked by the Sports Council to resolve the wrangling at Brikama Youth and Sport Association of which the WRC sports chairman was alleged to have dissolved the Bassirou Barjoe-led BYSA leadership. The decision triggered uproar within Brikama amidst claims of biasness by the bigger WRC sport entity thus prompting the reaction of the National Sports Council to disband the regional outfit. According to the council, they have acted counter to the Sports Act and have based their decision on sentiments, instituting a normalizing committee instead of regulating and probing the issue. However, the findings by the NC have cleared the defunct WRC of wrongdoing and have strongly recommended its restoration by the National Sports Council, who has since heeded to the advice. Confirming the re-installation, the council – a technical arm of government – said in a press statement yesterday: “Following the suspension of members of the above committee and subsequent investigation into their activities, the Interim Committee of the West Coast Region Sports Committee had reported to the National Sports Council, recommending for Council to reinstate WCR Sports Committee.”’ It concludes: “The Interim Committee had observed that there are no major problems with the Regional Sports Committee and as such recommends for it to be reinstated. Acting on the recommendations, the National Sports Council hereby announces the reinstatement of the earlier dissolved regional sports body effective 9th July, 2015. It could be recalled that the said regional sports body was dissolved as a result of preliminary findings revealing that the body was divided on the BYSA issue based on sentiments resulting in it not being able to resolve the matter among other things. While urging the reinstated body to remain steadfast and committed to its responsibilities, the National Sports Council takes the opportunity to thank the general public and stakeholders for their patience and commitment to the development of sports.”]]>
