The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure (MoTWI) and the National Roads Authority (NRA) have embarked on an inspection tour of the ongoing roads in Lots 1 and 2 of the OIC 50km Urban roads projects.
The delegation started their tour at Lot 1, P16, which connects Kanifing Hospital to GTMI road (0.75km); P2 which links Kanifing Hospital to Bertil Harding highway (Methodist Academy) and Estate Road (2.80km); P15, a 2.68km Bundung Highway, and P10, which is a 1.26km project which starts from Sukuta Junction Ba to Bakoteh Hermann Gmeiner Road (Amsterdam).
The delegation also inspected Lot 2 at P6 comprising Kololi Tavern – Bijilo – Brufut which is 8.60km and P9, comprising Sukuta – Wullingkama – Brufut Ghana Town road project of 8.35km. The visit according to officials, is part of the inspection on the finishing touches of the sectional completion of various roads that are said to be assigned to the contractor for completion by the 15th of November, 2024.
Speaking after the site visits, Ebrima Sillah, the Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure, expressed delight at the level of work in both Lot 1 and 2, noting that the level of progress is unprecedented.
“The contractor has imported streetlights in some sections of the road in Lot 1 and these will soon be fixed before the scheduled deadline. The remaining works are also part of the sectional completion exercise by the contractor and this will be handed over to the government,” Minister Sillah further informed.
For his part, Sulayman Sumareh Janneh, the Deputy Managing Director of the NRA, said they are somehow pleased though not satisfied, with the current ongoing works in both Lots 1 and 2.
“We understand that this is still an ongoing project and there have been a lot of work and improvements in recent times. We want to give continuity to improvement a chance to see what will happen,” he said.
Joseph Raymond Sandy, Project Director of Pavi Ford, Gambisara Enterprise, and Huta JV construction company, said they are optimistic about handing over some portion while working on other portions in Lot 2.
According to him, Lot 2 is divided into three sections, and said they are optimistic about handing milestone developments on Lot 1 and 2 to the government by next year, 2025.
