NIA renamed to State Intelligence Services

The state TV on Tuesday during the 8pm News bulletin announced that the National Intelligence Agency NIA has now been renamed State Intelligence Services (SIS) with a different mandate for Intelligence gathering and protect Gambians from internal and external threats and shall no more arrest and detain them.

The press release added that the SIS shall no more undertake any activities that are unconstitutional especially. Human rights will be safeguarded,it added.

The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) is an organisation of Gambia established by the AFPRC in July 1994. This secret Agency was known for detention without trial and disappearance without trace for the past 22 years.
