NIA Releases Alpha Sey, Wandifa Kanyi on Bail

Foroyaa has received information from close sources that Alpha Sey and Wandifa Kanyi were released on bail around 5pm on 3 January, 2017 by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

The three were arrested by operatives of the NIA for wearing and selling t-shirts with the slogan “#GambiaHasDecided”.

Mr. Sey, who was wearing a T-shirt with the “#Gambia has decided”, was forced into a pickup vehicle around 11 pm near the traffic lights at Kairaba Avenue on Saturday, 31 December 2016 and taken to the NIA headquarters in Banjul where he was held for more than 72 hours before he was released on bail and asked to report on Thursday, 5 January 2017.

Mr. Kanyi, who sells at the H.S Kanyi spare parts shop along the Kombo Sillah Drive on Churchill Town, was picked up and taken in a vehicle with the registration number BJL 7173 J around 3pm on Monday, 2 January, for selling the “#GambiaHasDecided”  t-shirts. He was held for more than 24 hours at the NIA in Banjul before being released and asked to report on bail on Thursday, 5 January.

According to Ebrima Darboe, they asked Musa Touray to go and bail Kanyi who was asked to be reporting on bail until they are done with him. “Kanyi has finally reunited with his family at home,” he added.

It was also reported that two others namely Sheriff Sambou and Muhammed Kuyateh who were said to be arrested and held in connection with the “#GambiaHasDecided” t-shirts have also been released on bail.
