The newly appointed Gambia Immigration Department (GID) Public Relation Officer (PRO), Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Cadet ASI MannehImmigration (CASI) Pa Ousman Manneh, has assured the building of a cordial relationship between his institution and the media in the Gambia as well as the general public.

PRO Manneh said this in a press briefing with the media at the GID headquarters in Banjul on Thursday, 18 August 2016 in the presence of his junior colleagues namely Ramatoulie Bah and Corporal Jadama.

“I intend to work towards eradicating misconceptions in the public sphere about unfounded myths within the Gambia Immigration Department in a bid to bridge the gap between the Immigration and the public through dialogue. Such endeavor, I believe, is possible only through the flow of relevant information to the media,” he revealed.

The new GID PRO said he will be working towards achieving these set goals and targets of the Gambia Immigration Department, in particular, and the Gambia Government, in general, as stated in their GID Act and Operational Manual.

Cadet ASI Manneh said this mission of the GID is “to ensure the maintenance of law and order, thus creating a high sense of public confidence in the GID, while adequately keeping the personnel and the public informed on the role, responsibilities and duties of the GID.”

He added that in doing this, they will be engaged in “analyzing public perceptions and attitudes, identifying their policy with public interest and then execute programmes for communication with the GID and the public.”

The GID PRO said he would like to inform the general public to make the best use of their professional standard unit which, he added, is under their public relation office.

“This office can serve as a public complaints office where the general public can come and lay their concerns on misconducts of any immigration officer or come forward to request for any information in line with the immigration,” he disclosed.
