Demba Ceesay, the newly appointed Director of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency-The Gambia (DLEA-G), continues his familiarisation tour of the sister security services of the country as part of his initiative to strengthen inter-agency collaboration between DLEAG and these services.

DG Ceesay and the delegation had an engagement with IGP Touray and the senior management of the GPF and their discussions centred on national security matters and the strengthening of inter-Agency cooperation and collaboration for the peace and stability of the Gambia.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to work together in sharing information and intelligence, and in training and joint operations, aimed at disrupting the illicit flow, trafficking and dealing of drugs and related transnational organised crimes.

On his part, Ceesay thanked the IGP and his management for their warm reception accorded to him and his team. He used the opportunity to congratulate the IGP on his appointment and wished him all the best.

‘‘Like we always said in combating illegal drug use, concerted efforts are needed. To have all other law enforcement agencies on board in this fight is a step in the right direction,’’ IGP Touray said while thanking DG Ceesay.

In another development, the Police Public Relation Officer, (PRO), ASP Modou Musa Sisawo, said the Police Regional Command in the Central River Region (CRR) conducted a traffic operation in CRR South and impounded nearly forty motorcycles on Tuesday, 6 August 2024.

The operation was to enforce the compliance of these motorcycle owners with the traffic regulations on public roads and highways in CRR.

In Bansang where the operation was conducted, most of the riders were issued mandatory spot fines, while the rest await charges.

According to the Police PRO, this operation is part of ongoing efforts to mitigate the increasing number of road traffic accidents especially those involving motorbikes, during the rainy season in rural Gambia.
