NAWEC ON ENERGY SOVEREIGNTY

25

A nation that does not have the capacity to generate its energy requirements would be deprived of its energy sovereignty.

It is therefore  necessary to point out that Karpower that claims to have been responsible for producing 40 percent of Nawec’s generation requirements at the peak of its engagement with Nawec, has issued a press release stating that it’s contract with Nawec came to an end on 2nd May. Nawec has also issued a press release stating that its contract with Karpower has come to an end. This contract will not be  renewed.
Furthermore it claims that it’s  contract with Karpower was a temporary measure. It also claims that it is preparing to reactivate its own generators and also focus on sustainable energy generation. Nawec did not elaborate on its capacity to deliver but it did state that it will minimise power outages.

Foroyaa will try to interview both Nawec and Karpower on the challenges and achievements of the Karpower deal. It will try to know from Nawec whether it’s purchase power agreement with Senelec is done with an objective in mind to sever the relation as soon  as possible to guarantee energy sovereignty.
