The Ministry of Justice in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, will today embarked on a five -day sensitization on the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission, TRRC, in all the regions of the Gambia. The Minister of Justice, Mr Aboubacarr M Tambadou, and some UN officials are part of the team that crossed the river to Barra yesterday.
During the course of the sensitisation meetings, officials will discuss and interact with people in all the regions, starting from North Bank to the Upper River Region. The purpose of the meeting is to create awareness on the aims and objectives of the Commission as enshrined in the draft bill.
Meetings will be conducted in various villages and towns, such as Kerewan, Farafenni, Georgetown, Basse, Soma/Mansa Konko and Bwiam respectively. On the second week of the tour (19th August, 2017), meetings will be held in the greater Banjul area. There would be meetings at the CCF Hall and at the Ministry of Education in Brikama. Places like Gunjur, the West Coast Region, Serrekunda East and West, Bakau and Banjul, will also be attended to.
It would be recalled that Gambia’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Aboubacarr Tambedou alias ‘Ba,’ recently launched the National Consultation on the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission, at a local hotel in Kololi. Justice Minister Tambedou assured, that the country must know the truth of human rights violations perpetrated by the former regime of Yahya Jammeh who is accused of the torture and killing of opponents of his regime.
