NAO Bags Award of Excellence

The National Audit Office (NAO) of The Gambia has been awarded the 2024 AFROSAI-E Recognition of Excellence for its outstanding results in donor-funded projects.

The award celebrates the NAO’s dedication to enhancing government accountability and transparency on project implementation, in collaboration with AFROSAI-E and the World Bank. 

Following the award, this medium contacted the Auditor General, Mr. Modou Ceesay, for his comment.

In his reaction, AG Ceesay expressed: “We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award from the Secretariat of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E). It reflects the strong spirit of teamwork within our organization as we strive to achieve our objectives”.

He also expressed  NAO’s deep gratitude to all their donors, particularly to the World Bank’s Gambia Fiscal Management Development Project, which has played a significant role in helping them secure this Recognition of Excellence Award. 

This award, AG Ceesay added further demonstrates the trust and commitment of the National Audit Office (NAO) in building collaborative partnerships. 

He said that the NAO is always open to collaboration and support from the donor community to excel in fulfilling the broad mandate entrusted to the Auditor General. 

He conveyed “Now more than ever, we need such partnerships to build our institutional capacity to meet the demands of public sector auditing including expanding our audits to cover emerging and specialized areas”.

On behalf of the National Audit Office and his entire team, “I would like to dedicate this award to The Gambia. As a public institution, the successes of the NAO also reflect on our country as a whole”.

He assured: “We continue to seek the support of all stakeholders in our efforts to strengthen accountability and transparency in the management of public resources”.
