Fatou Jabang, wife of staff Sergeant Manlafi Corr, a former member of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), is calling
on the authorities to immediately take the soldiers who executed her husband in 2006 to be put on trial. She made this remark during the joint commemoration of April 10/11.
Following the commemoration of the horrific massacre or killings of 14 students by the security forces of the former regime of President Yahya Jammeh, families of those who were abducted, arrested and then disappeared without trace are also claiming for justice to be done.
Mrs. Jabang added that she is not commemorating not only for April 10/11 but for the innocent Gambian soldiers or civil savants who were arrested and later murdered by the former government. She was seen wearing T-shirt slogan ‘#Justice for our children now’ and she was also in a traumatizing situation. ‘‘I was with a 4 month pregnancy at the time of my husband’s arrest and I later gave birth to a baby boy who is now 10 years old and going to grade 4 but the most difficult moment I face is that he is living without his father,’’ he said.
She described how the disappearance of her husband traumatised the family and brought untold suffering to them as he was the sole breadwinner.
It was reported earlier that her husband was part of the soldiers who were picked up by plain clothes officers in the wake of the alleged coup to throw the former President. However, the wife said the family does not believe the account given by the former regime and they feared for the worst as he has not been seen since then.
