Foroyaa received information from sources, that the municipal and area council police personnel in all the seven administrative divisions of the Gambia have been stopped from work with immediate effect as from Thursday, 9 June 2016 and are being replaced in their places of work by the police force.

The source added that a letter to this effect was sent to all the concerned local government authorities.

It was also observed that the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) police at the Serekunda Market were not in their regular stations as of Friday 10 June 2016. On Saturday 11 June only one man was seen with a municipal police uniform. A municipal police while on board a public transport was heard lamenting the loss of his job due to a takeover of duties by the police.

However, when the Public Relation Officers of Banjul City Council (BCC) and Kanifing Municipal Councils were approached though they admitted they were aware of the matter they declined to comment for the time being.

Further investigation will be done to get clear information.
