On Thursday, 13 December 2018 the National Assembly made history by rejecting the supplementary estimates submitted by the Minister of Finance and economic affairs, Mr Mambury Njie, requesting the appropriation of D1,128,337,518.77 (one billion, one hundred and twenty eight million, three hundred and thirty seven thousand, five hundred and eighteen dalasis seventy seven bututs).

Initially the NAMs approved a motion to submit the estimates to the Finance and Public Accounts Committee for review. The Finance and Public Accounts Committee took two days to conduct their review. They submitted their report to the National Assembly recommending for the assembly to slash the sum to be appropriated from 1.1 billion to 508 million. After the report of the Finance and Public Accounts Committee was submitted, the members debated the merits of the report and finally decided to reject the motion to approve the estimates in its entirety.

Foroyaa will submit the details of the debate in subsequent editions.
