According to the Ministry of Public Service Baboucarr Bouy, there are about 2,700 unseen workers in almost ten ministries including the Ministry of Information, Petroleum, Interior, Fishery, Justice, Foreign Affair, Defense, Transport, Tourism, Lands, Finance, Higher Education, Trade, and Youth.
‘We have also established something that is unseen,’ he said during a press conference at DKJ Conference Hall.
He said they can’t call the people ‘ghost workers’ because they have to establish that fact. He further added that they are saving about D13.5 million per month from these unseen workers.
In April 2024, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Health, and Agriculture, the Ministry of Public Service conducted an internal audit blocking the salaries of over 3000 ‘workers’. However, the paychecks of 882 workers were released after nearly two weeks when their statuses were verified and confirmed.
According to Minister Bouy, they are entering data for the fourteenth ministries following their internal audit.
