By KebbaJeffang As the corpse of her son is still held at the Banjul hospital mortuary under armed guard, Meta Njie has been languishing in detention for 176 days today without release or appearance before a court of law. The mother of Lieutenant Colonel Lamin Sanneh, former Commander of the Presidential Guard and who was reported killed during the 30 December 2014 attack, has been arrested at her mother’s residence at FajiKunda on New Year’s day and held since then without access to family. “We weren’t expecting her detention to come up to the holy month of Ramadan. We still don’t have access to her. We are all praying for her to be released before the end of the fasting month to enable her to witness the feast at home with the rest of the family,” said a close relative. The family source said they are appealing to the authorities to help secure the release of their love one to re-unite with them in the spirit of the holy Muslim fasting month. “She should also be released for the sake of her old and bed-ridden mother who is always thinking about her daughter in detention and which is traumatising her,” noted the source. ]]>
