Metta Njie Disappears for 197 Days Today

By Kebba Jeffang Metta Njie, mother of Lt. Col. Lamin Sanneh, former Commanding officer of State House,is still being held at anCol. Lamin Sanneh unknown destination for 197 days today after being picked up in her Fagi-kunda residence on 1st January, 2015 by the intelligence operatives. Her son, Lt. Col. Lamin Sanneh, former commander of the presidential guards, was announced dead by the state who alleged that he was the leader of the insurgents that had attacked the presidential palace in Banjul on the night of the 30th December, 2014. The mother is now being unlawfully held in contravention of the 72 hours requirement under section 19 of the Constitution. When contacted yesterday, the family members said the mother is still being held and they do not even know where she is kept. “We could not access her since then. We were expecting her release in the spirit of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan but to no avail. We hope and pray that she will be finally released before the pray,’ said a concern relative. The source added that due to this traumatizing experience, Metta’s aging mother has fallen sick and is bed-ridden at the moment.]]>
