META NJIE’S MOTHER APPEALS FOR HER RELEASE

83

By Mustapha Jallow The mother of Meta Njie, who has been detained for four months now, is appealing to Col. Lamin Sannehthe authorities to release her daughter from incommunicado detention. Meta Njie is the mother of the late Lt. Col. Lamin Sanneh, the former commanding officer of the presidential guards, who is accused by the state of being the leader of the armed attack on state house. Colonel Lamin Sanneh was said to have died during the fire fight at the Presidency. “I was very sick when Meta paid me a visit to check on my health condition. While she was here with me, a group of men came and picked her up. I have not seen or heard from her since then and her continued detention is worsening my health condition,” revealed the old and bed-ridden woman. It was earlier reported that Meta was arrested on Thursday afternoon, 1 January 2015, at her mother’s residence in Fajikunda by 4 men who claimed to be from the NIA. The corpse of the late Lt. Col. Sanneh is still kept under guard by soldiers at the morgue at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul.  ]]>
