Meet the Gambian who grabbed double trophies in Senegal

By Sulayman Bah Brikama-born Alieu Jatta over the weekend made history winning both the league and Cup competition in Senegal. The defender played a big part when his side Generation Foot on Saturday night became the first team to win the third division title and the prestigious Senegal Cup in Dakar.Jatta has been an invaluable in Generation’s campaign after making the move from GFF first division side Brikama United. It was an all Gambian affair as Alieu’s foot disposed of country mate, Assan Ceesay, premier league club Casa Sport in a thrill-never-lacking game. Speaking to Foroyaa Sport from Dakar the former Gambia U-19 solid stopper said: ‘It feels great. I’m very happy about the team and the entire team management’ Winner of the Senegal Cup –the equivalent of Gambia’s FA Cup now FF Cup – qualifies to the Caf Confederation Cup.  Jatta last played in a Caf competition for Brikama United in the Caf Champions League preliminary round. However with his club’s heights, it means return to continental football for the Gambia international. ‘I feel well relaxed and excited already. My last outing with Brikama in the Caf competition was a great experience and I’m really looking forward to this one too in a different atmosphere. I just can’t wait again,’ the thrilled left-footer went on. The former Gambia U-17 starlet would be the only Gambian playing in the Senegalese second tier when the season commences –a level below goalkeeper Modou Jobe, Pa Amadou Gai and Assan Ceesay, all top division players in Dakar. Grilled on his future he said: ‘I’m not really in any rush. As for now I’m enjoying this success and looking forward to see my family soon’ For their record-setting display, the entire Generation Foot squad has been promised with a trip to Metz, France where the club owners reside. ‘France will be a perfect starting for me and my colleagues. As we all know, it’s a starting point for many big names (players). I will love to see that coming, but since it is not materialized yet, I’m reserving my comments. ‘Senegalese football is well structured from youth levels to Division One. I’m very pleased with the professional way their games are. The Federation, supporters/sponsors are just extra-ordinary,’ he concludes. Jatta has featured in the Gambia U-20 and national team and was a member of the U-19 Scorpions that won the Umbria tournament in Italy.]]>
