Mayor of Banjul Meets President Barrow in Makamangkunda

RoheyMalick Lowe, Mayor of Banjul who doubles as the President of REFELA on Saturday, 25 November paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Adama Barrow at MankamangKunda.

The mayor of Banjul was accompanied by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Seedy SK Njie. 

Speaking to the media after a closed door meeting with President Barrow, who is currently on a nationwide tour, mayor RoheyMalick Lowe said she was in MakamangKunda to present her prestigious award from United Nations Habitat and Dr. Benjamin Barber Global Cities Award by the Global Parliament of Mayors, to His Excellency Adama Barrow President of the Republic of the Gambia.

“We are here to present the Award that I received from the UN Habitat and also from the Dr Benjamin Barber award which was given to me by the president of North Macedonia to the President, and I am here in my capacity as a Gambian and as a mayor to present the award. This is the highest order of award that a mayor can receive, that is the Dr Barber award,” she  said. 

Mayor Lowe described the award ‘the highest level’ of awards in her life. 

She said Barrow was very excited to receive the award and congratulate her for such an achievement. 

“The president’s reaction just as before because as you all know he came out as his capacity as a president and also as the leader of the National People’s party and congratulate me and that means a lot to me and again as you can see he was very happy to receive the award and he once again congratulated me as well,” she added. 

“The award means a lot to me and when it was given to me I dedicated the award to the youth and the women of the Gambia and I think they deserve it,” She Said.

According to her, the Benjamin Barber Award acknowledges mayors for their exceptional contributions to advancing global urban governance and inspiring city leadership.

She thanked the people of Banjul and her party adding that without her party she wouldn’t be mayor and receiving such awards and her party leadership.
