A lower court in Basse has remanded one Kamo Hydara, a man accused of beating a 14-year-old to death, a statement from police headquarters in Banjul said on Wednesday.

It added that investigators escorted Hydara of Demba Kunda to face a Magistrate over his alleged crime. The session, headquarters say, presided over by Magistrate Peter Che Esq, took place September 3, 2024 – and the case has been transferred to the High Court that has jurisdiction.

“The accused has been remanded in custody pending trial,’’ says the police.

Earlier on, police detectives quickly launched an investigation when the mysterious news broke out. They were alerted by the District Hospital over the death of the teen boy.

Preliminary medical examinations suggested that the boy may have been a victim of physical abuse, as signs of torture were evident on his body, investigators explained.

In the blink of an eye, police held three individuals from Demba Kunda, who had helped investigators with the investigation – that later led to the arrest of Kamo. He confessed to the murder.

During interrogation, according to the police, Kamo admitted to taking the boy to an incomplete building, where he beat him to death, claiming he was disciplining him {14-year-old} for being disobedient.

“He is being remanded,’’ says police spokesman, Cadet ASP Modou Musa Sisawo.
