Man hangs himself after attempting to kill his wife

Momodou Sowe, a resident of Mandinary village in the Kombo North District, has committed suicide by hanging himself, after his attempt to chop off the head of his wife, with a machete.

This horrible incident, happened on Sunday 18^th June 2017, between the hours of 7pm and 9pm when he attempted to kill his wife.

According to sources, the deceased requested for some water from his wife after breaking his fast, who in turn gave the water to the daughter to take to the father; that by this time the deceased had the cutlass hidden under his arm pit; that after he drank the water, he gave the cup to his daughter to return it to the mother; that without any notice, the deceased quickly rushed on the wife by pulling his cutlass from his under arm pit and suddenly hacked her on her shoulder; that this was the first attempt; that when the wife realized that she was hacked and wounded, she stood to defend herself and that was when the deceased hacked her again for the second time, wounding her on both hands.

Eyewitnesses further said that it was at this moment, that the deceased, Momodou Sowe, ran immediately into the bush and hanged himself with a rope. When the neighbours arrived at the scene, they quickly contacted the Mandinary Police who came and rushed the seriously wounded wife to Banjulunding Major Health for medical attention and later to Serrekunda General Hospital, where she is currently admitted for treatment.

The police spokesperson when contacted, confirmed the story and indicated that Momodou Sowe attempted to kill the wife with a cutlass and this landed on the wife’s neck and some parts of her fingers .He also said that the deceased, Momodou Sowe, committed suicide and his body was at the mortuary; that the wife is presently admitted at the Serrekunda General Hospital, where she is receiving treatment. PRO Conta concluded that the Police will conduct investigation on the matter but that this cannot proceed now because the woman is still at the hospital and they have to wait for her, whilst she recuperates.
