Investigators of the Gambia Police Force (GPF) are now searching for clues to find out how a man found dead in a pool of blood in Mandinaring lost his life.
The deceased has been identified as Yaya Sawaneh, a resident of Mandinaring, who was found dead on Tuesday, 22 November 2023.
The man allegedly committed suicide, but the police said they cannot rule out other causes of death for now until the investigation is concluded. Hence, they are soliciting clues from members of the public.
Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo, the acting spokesperson of the police said extensive searches have been launched seeking to get clues to establish the possible cause of the man’s death. He encouraged the public to furnish the police information that will help in the investigations.
When asked whether there was a possible foul play in the case, he replied: “We are yet to receive any information that suggests he was murdered. But also investigation is currently ongoing. Once the investigation is done, we will inform the public.”
In a short statement issued on Tuesday, 21 November 2023, the police said: “GPF investigates an alleged suicide of Yaya Suwaneh, a resident of Mandinary.
The 22 year old was urgently transported to Banjulunding Health Center due to alleged self-inflicted injuries resulting in severe blood loss. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The police will continue investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
