Magistrates’ Courts in the Gambia have not been sitting this week due to security concerns. The Inspector General of Police decided to withdraw their protection officers otherwise known as orderlies.
Judicial sources have informed Foroyaa that magistrates are not sitting because the security personnel who guard them have all been withdrawn by the police command.
Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police Modou Musa Sisawo, the spokesperson of the Gambia Police Force has confirmed that the Inspector General of Police has withdrawn the orderlies for the magistrates from their functions and had redeployed them back to the Police.
Cadet Assistant Superintendent Sisawo would not make further comments regarding the matter. He did not give any reasons for the sudden withdrawal. However, PRO Sisawo revealed the IGP and officials of the Judiciary were discussing the matter.
