Magistrate Cham Remands Murder Suspect, Transfers Case to high court

Principal Magistrate Omar Cham of the Brikama Magistrate’s Court has transferred the murder trial of one Bubacarr Drammeh who is alleged to have murdered Buba Jammeh, a student of the University of the Gambia in March 2019.

The transfer of the matter came after Assistant Superintendent Almami Manga made an application for the matter to be transferred to the Special Criminal Division of the high court to try the offence. In his application, Manga said the charge attracts life imprisonment sentence and the laws oust the lower courts to try such offences.

The accused person was not represented by a legal practitioner and there was no objection by the accused person with regards to the application. Magistrate Cham granted the application by the prosecutor and he remanded the accused person pending his arraignment before the higher court.

Drammeh is a male Gambian from Berending and he is facing a charge of murder. He is alleged to have murdered Buba Jammeh, a student of the University of the Gambia on the 11th March 2019 during a clash between some residents of Gunjur and Berending.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused person on or about the 11 March 2019 at Gunjur village Kombo South West coast Region, with malice aforethought, unlawfully caused the death of Buba Jammeh.
