Madam Isatou Ndow, Vice Principal of the School of Education at Gambia College, has been honored with the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award. The prestigious award was presented to her during the Teacher Prize Award ceremony in recognition of her decades-long dedication to teacher training, curriculum development, and gender inclusion in education.

As Vice Principal of Gambia College, Madam Ndow assists the Principal in overseeing the institution’s daily administrative functions. She plays a vital role in shaping and enforcing policies that impact students, faculty, and staff, working closely with school administrators and the governing council.

Madam Ndow is widely regarded as a transformative figure in Gambian education. Throughout her career, she has mentored educators, influenced national policy reforms, and championed the training of thousands of teachers. The School of Education at Gambia College, where she has served in leadership roles, remains the country’s most authoritative institution for teacher training.

The college’s main campus in Brikama enrolls thousands of students annually, while its annex in Basse, established in January 2020, provides rural students with access to teacher education without having to migrate to urban areas. The School of Education offers diploma and advanced diploma programs in education, along with specialized courses in Early Childhood Development, Catering and Hospitality, and Community Policing and Security Studies for law enforcement officials.

Many of Madam Ndow’s former students and colleagues describe her as a mentor, role model, and advocate for quality education.

“Every woman is great and deserves to be celebrated, especially those who impart knowledge, instill values, and inspire others. We celebrate Madam Ndow not just because she won this award, but because she has positively impacted our lives,” said Mariatou Jammeh, a former student of Gambia College.

Madam Ndow has dedicated her life to training educators, from Early Childhood Development to the Higher Teachers Certificate—now known as the Advanced Diploma in Education.

“She has touched and continues to touch many lives at Gambia College and beyond. She is not just a lecturer and a leader; she is a mother, mentor, and caregiver to all students. She has transformed many lives from nothing to something,” said Nafisatou Jallow, a teacher and former student.

Her teaching style is also widely praised for its effectiveness.

“We called her ‘Madam’ at the college. She lectures in such an effortless manner that students give her their full attention and cooperation. Her class is always well-managed. She doesn’t just teach gender studies—she ensures her students apply those lessons in their everyday lives. She is truly exceptional,” said Nfally Sowe, another former student.

Beyond her academic contributions, Madam Ndow is known for her leadership and willingness to support students beyond the classroom.

“She listens to every student and makes every effort to help us solve our challenges. Despite her hectic schedule, she stays at her desk from 9 a.m. until the last student leaves, ensuring that all tasks are completed,” said Momodou Jallow, Principal of the School of Education at Gambia College.

Madam Isatou Ndow’s legacy is one of dedication, excellence, and unwavering commitment to education. Her recognition with the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award is a testament to the countless lives she has influenced and the lasting impact she has made on the education sector in The Gambia.
