By Sulayman Bah The wrestling arena is going through a moment of altercation with an ongoing feud between the Gambia Wrestling Federation and wrestling promotion brand M and B, Foroyaa Sport can reveal. The fall-out, though sparking off at the end of the season, has left many bewildered, creeping in at times when it was hoped that plans and moves were being engineered for the successful start of the coming. The GWF is involved in a furore with local wrestling promoting brand after it imposed five-month suspension on it. The federation imposed sanctions in reaction to the failed bout between prominent wrestler Ernes and Viper, signed by the aforesaid promotion brand while threatening to revoke M and B’s licence should they fail to pay its D5000 fine. The GWF, in another tough stance, expelled promoter Omar Burr Touray – its erstwhile adviser also member of M and B -for ‘gross misconduct’ from his role as president of Boxing Wrestling (Borreh Dorr). According the wrestling body headed by Mattarr Jarju –a retired wrestler – the promotion brand were responsible for the failed proposed bout after it emerged that one of the wrestlers Ernes Jatta did not sign a contract, accusing it of consequently triggering the expulsion of a wrestler by his club. However, the above mentioned brand has responded denying allegations. Spokesperson Omar Burr Touray insists in the two-page reply privy to Foroyaa Sport that he had not flouted any rule claiming he outlined, to the federation, his intentions to pursue his promotion job. He also denied GWF assertion of his of termination as its adviser claiming he in fact resigned. He said in the statement dated 4th July: “I am proud to have contributed to make the body (the GWF) what it is today. I can still remember telling you my intentions to continue with my promotion. I managed to push through (with your job) (in the) early months of 2014 before resigning to join my brother Matarr Sosseh to form M and B promotion.” He continued: “I have never said or done anything above the mandates as PBW (President of Boxing Wrestling) or write to any individual without the consent of the GWA…M and B is here to stay and this will not discourage us from serving our country in developing the wrestling. I thank everybody for their cooperation and understanding for the last two years or so until February when I resigned as PBW.” GWF’s actions to slam another suspension, the second ban in as seven days, invited criticisms from critics who accused the traditional sport overseeing body of excessiveness and settling private vendettas.]]>
