The Libyan Embassy in The Gambia has now officially re-opened its offices yesterday Tuesday 30 June 2015 for 
normal diplomatic or consular work.
This was confirmed to this reporter by Mr. Ebrima Saho, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) and Personal Assistant of the Embassy, in an interview at his office yesterday.
Mr. Saho said the re-opening of the embassy was prompted by a letter from the Gambian ministry of foreign affairs which authorised them to continue their operation.
When asked why the embassy is now allowed to operate after having been ordered to close down on 9 June because of the lack of a legitimate unitary government in Libya, the PRO responded that no reason was advanced.
“When we received the letter, we did as exactly what is stated by the government, because we had to respect the decision of the government,” he remarked.
The Libyan Embassy PRO said they have now started work with all their members of staff on duty but except the personnel of the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) who were removed from the embassy on Thursday, 25 June 2015. He said they will be writing a letter to the government to request for the presence of the PIU personnel to provide security. “Apart from this, everything else is normal as at now as all the members of staff are working in their respective areas,” he said.
It could be recalled that exactly twenty two days ago, the Libyan Embassy in the Gambia was ordered to close by the Gambia Government. This was also confirmed when a Foroyaa reporter visited the Embassy and found pasted on its wall a notice which read as follows: “The Embassy regrets to announce to all staff and visitors that the Libyan Embassy is shut down on the 9th June 2015 until further notice”.
