Senior Lawyer Jainaba Bah, the Chairperson of the Local Government Commission of Inquiry has called on the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) to provide the Commission with consistent electricity when they resume in January.

She indicated that she hopes that NAWEC will be consistent when the Commission resumes public hearing on 8 January 2024.

She stated that the inconsistent electricity supply fluctuation of NAWEC affected their public proceedings. She said she hopes this will stop when they resume.

“We need to capture our public proceedings and we cannot do this when NAWEC goes off,” she said.

The commission has taken a Christmas recess effective 15 December 2023.

Below is the full press release from the Commission’s Secretariat titled Christmas Recess dated 14 December 2023.

“The Commission of Inquiry into Local Government Councils and connected matters informs the general public that it will take a Christmas recess effective 15th of December 2023. The Commission resumes public hearing on Monday, 8th January 2024.

The break will give our Christian brothers and sisters the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with their families and loved ones.

It could be recalled that the Commission was established to conduct a full and impartial investigation into Local Government Councils between May 2018 to January 2023. The Commission is conducting a holistic and fair review of the financial and administrative conduct of the local councils to enhance transparency and accountability in the councils.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
