Hamas initiated a suicide attack on the people of Israel and the Netanyahu government retaliated by committing genocide against over 40,000 Palestinians and making a large portion of the population homeless. Hezbollah showed solidarity with the Palestinians by involving themselves. The Israeli government launched an intense bombardment against targets in Lebanon, killing and injuring Hezbollah fighters and civilians. Hezbollah then retaliated by firing missiles into Israel and hitting targets.
Both sides have shown capacity to hit each other’s backyard. None is capable of outright victory. So what is the point? Both the Israeli people and the Palestinian people continue to live in fear. Both want the war to end and a peaceful settlement of the dispute which will enable Palestinians and Israelis to co-exist in peace.
