Lawyer urges Court of Appeal to Acquit Amadou Sanneh

Darboe has yesterday, 29^th June 2015, urged the 3 panel judges of the Gambia Court of Appeal headed by Justice Edrissa Fafa Mbai to allow the appeal of Mr. Amadou Sanneh, the National Treasurer of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and enter a verdict of acquittal. This was done when both counsels for the appellant and the respondent (State) adopted their respective briefs which they had earlier filed. Before the adoption of the briefs, M.B Abubacarr, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DDPP), told the court that he wishes to withdraw the motion dated 15^th and 24^th June respectively. He said they applied for them to be struck out. However, there was no objection from Counsel Darboe. The said motions were accordingly struck out by the court. “I wish to adopt the appellant’s brief of argument dated on the 14^th January, 2015 and reply on points of law dated 13^th and filed on the 14^th May 2015. We are relying on the arguments and all the authorities cited and we humbly urged the court to grant the appeal and enter a verdict of acquittal,” said Lawyer Darboe. The DDPP also adopted the respondent’s brief dated on the 18^th March 2015 and urged the court to dismiss the appeal. The case was adjourned to 13^th of July 2015 for the court’s verdict on the appeal.  ]]>
