Lamin Marigo and Lamin Sey, who are said to be close friends, went missing since their arrest by the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) Lamin Marigo and Lmain Seyon Monday 9 May 2016 and were later traced to the Janjanbureh prison in the Central River Region (CRR), where they are still detained without access to their family members.

Baboucarr Bah, a brother to Lamin Marigo, who expresses his concern over the long period of detention without court appearance or access to family, said the wife of Marigo has now left the apartment in Sanchaba where she was staying with her husband before the arrest and is now in the house of her husband’s sister in the coastal road area.

Mr. Bah expressed his disappointment that the two friends are still not released by the authorities for the sake of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Mr. Bah said the brother got married only recently and that his wife is in total trauma as she does not see the husband whose whereabouts is not yet known to them.

He said they have visited many known detention centres to search for the two friends but they could not be traced anywhere.

Earlier reports indicated that the two were picked up at the same time and place on 9 May which was the day when Mr Ousainou Darboe, leader of UDP, and other party members appeared in court in Banjul. Since then the two men did not return.
