A new tribunal building has been inaugurated in Gunjur.

The inauguration of the district tribunal infrastructure, sponsored by the Gach Global Trading Company, brought together local authorities, the Imam of Gunjur, VDC representatives, and other invited dignitaries.

During the ceremony, a VDC representative informed the gathering that the community sought support from Abubakary Jawara to which he graciously agreed to build the new District Tribunal building for the community of Kombo South, as the current courthouse has dilapidated. The VDC representative highlighted that Gach Company and AbubakaryJawara have consistently supported the Kombo South community in various aspects.

Yusuf Jawara, speaking on behalf of Abubakary Jawara, extended greetings to the Imam, Alkalo, and Chief of Kombo South and the Governor of West Coast Region, who attended the ceremony. He emphasized that the donation for the construction of the district tribunal was made possible by Gach Global Company. He acknowledged the peaceful environment facilitated by President Adama Barrow, which enabled them to achieve such community development initiatives.

Mr. Jawara clarified that the support from his company in building the tribunal did not exempt anyone including himself, from facing consequences of breaking the law. He emphasized that the sponsorship was part of their corporate social responsibility and said Gach Global Company will continue contributing to the community’s development across different sectors.

On his part, Falalo Touray, the District of Kombo South, began his speech by welcoming and expressing gratitude to all those who attended the inauguration of the new District Tribunal and thanked the Alkalo, members of the VDC, and the villager’s association for their proactive efforts in addressing the challenges of the district and in securing Abubakary Jawara’s intervention for the construction of the court complex.

Chief Touray applauded Abubakary Jawara and his company for their timely support and underlined the importance of giving back to the community. He also cited Jawara’s contributions like building a Police Station in Sanyang and other projects in different parts of Kombo South. Chief Touray emphasized that not every entrepreneur reinvests a portion of their profits back into the community as a form of corporate social responsibility, but said Juwara has set an example by funding the construction of a courthouse in Kombo South and other infrastructures. He highlighted that the newly built tribunal will serve to uphold justice and peace within the community by catering to all residents regardless of their background, status, or political beliefs.

In his closing remarks, Chief Touray underscored the court’s role in preserving justice and assured that the new tribunal would operate impartially even if the sponsor of the new courtroom was found violating the law. He finally emphasized that all court proceedings would adhere strictly to legal standards without bias.

On his part, Governor Ousman Bojang of the West Coast Region said a significant improvement has been made on the new building compared to the previous court building and credited Chief FalaloTouray’s leadership for this development. He said many community disputes particularly land-related issues, can now be addressed at the local level with the establishment of the new district tribunal, noting that the judiciary is working hard for such issues to be handled by traditional rulers. He asserted the importance of fairness and justice in the judicial system and emphasized that justice must be served without partiality, regardless of any individual or entity’s contributions.

Governor Bojang urged the community to recognize and value the initiative of Gach Global Company and called for unity and joint efforts toward enhancing the community’s welfare.

The ceremony was attended by Chiefs from other districts in the Region, Alkalos, the Governor and deputy governor of WCR, members of the Gunjur VDC, and elders from surrounding villages in Kombo South.
