The natives and members of Kiang Karantaba Development Association (KKDA) have recently staged their first annual general meeting in Kiang West District, Lower River Region (LRR).
The theme for the meeting is “Speaking a Voice for Peace and Unity”.
Addressing delegates at the opening of the two day activity held in the premises of Karantaba Lower Basic School, Alhagie Omar Gibba, Chief of Kiang West District, hailed Karantaba residents, those in Kombo and in the Diaspora for their good foresight in coming together with such development oriented idea.
According to him, this is what patriotic citizens should do. The natives of Karantaba especially those in the Diaspora demonstrated true love for developing the community they hail from as they come together to discuss issues pertaining to the development of their own village, Chief Gibba said.
He urged the people of Karantaba to make best use of their ability to develop their village as the community has produced many educated people.
Mr. Edrisa Sanyang, President of KKDA, said the AGM is all about discussing how to develop their village and thanked the entire supporters for making the activity a success.
Mr. Lamin K. Marong, technical adviser of KKDA told the delegates that the AGM is long overdue, noting that the AGM is about organizing and harmonizing the different ideas, mobilizing resources both human and financial for a more sustainable development.
Marong added “Government is concerned and very much interested in grassroots development and Government also adopts the principles of all inclusiveness by engaging all the relevant stakeholders’ right from policy formulation, implementation and evaluation,” Marong said.
He said the AGM has the potential to bring about progressive development in all spheres of human engagements, adding that Karantaba is now divided into three groups namely; Karantaba, Kombo Karantaba and Karantaba residents in the Diaspora.
He stated that each of the group will organize themselves, network with other groups and develop a common vision, mission and strategic roadmap for the sustainable development of the village.
Mr. Yahya W.K. Marong secretary general, KKDA presented the association’s annual report and also read solidarity message from Karantaba Diaspora citizens before the delegates.
