Judgment date set in Babylon 13 trial Following adoption of briefs

By Kebba Jeffang The criminal case involving Mr. Lamin Bakary Jarju, “Alkalo” of Babylon and twelve others at the Brikama Magistrate’s Court is now set for judgment following the adoption of briefs of both the prosecution and defence by the Court. The adoption of the briefs and the date for the delivery of judgment was confirmed by Principal Magistrate Dayoh M. Small Dago at his office on Monday, 25^th August, 2014. The trial magistrate said the initial trial date was 1 September 2014, but this is now rescheduled to Thursday, 28^th August, 2014. It could be recalled that Lamin B. Jarju, the Babylon “Alkalo” was arrested on the 13^th of August, 2013 at his residence in Babylon, Kombo North in West Coast Region. The remaining accused persons were allegedly picked up the following day 14^th August, 2014 by joint security forces, including the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) and military personnel. Since their arrest, the accused persons were held at various detention centres such as Holgam, Janjanbureh prison and now the state central prison at Mile 2. They were first arraigned before Magistrate Baboucarr Secka at the Brikama Magistrate’s Court who was later replaced by Magistrate Fatou Jeng and then Principal Magistrate Small Dago. The accused persons are facing three counts ranging from arson, willful damage to property and criminal trespass. They all pleaded not guilty to the charge.  ]]>
