JUDGES REMOVED WITHOUT SETTING UP A TRIBUNAL WHILST IEC CHAIRMAN IS STILL RETAINED AFTER TERM EXPIRES IS MR. CARAYOL A WILLING ACCOMPLICE OR HOSTAGE?

72

The term of the Chairman has expired. Hence, the case of resignation does not arise. He just should not be there. It is the executive who should engage in consultation with the Public Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission to appoint a new Chairman and publish the appointment in the Gazette. It is strange that even though many Chairpersons of the Commission had been removed before the expiry of their term of office, one whose term has expired is still retained. Such a development would beg the question whether the Chairman has not become a hostage. An investigation is necessary to find out why the executive has not appointed a new Chairperson of the Commission. Negligence of duty is not the simple answer. The whole nation should be questioning the motive. The nation and the world deserve an answer.  ]]>
