Foroyaa has been finding it very difficult to get information on the official commencement of the trade season. The National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC, formerly GGC) appears to be tight lipped on what the president says or said during his tour. An institution like Agribusiness Service and Producers Association (ASPA) which used to be very vocal during the trade season is apparently absent in the public space regarding matters dealing with the trade season.
At the latter part of the Jawara administration and during the Jammeh administration government used to claim that it had no part to play in determining the price of groundnut.
Now it is not clear whether NFSPMC has any say in determining the price of groundnuts or the commencement of the trade season. We hope the government and its agencies responsible for the groundnut trade would collaborate to create a transparent atmosphere where the start of the trade season would be declared and the price of crops properly determined and announced. An independent and formal structure to determine the affairs of the trade season is necessary.
