IS IT FAIR FOR DETAINEES TO BE DENIED BAIL WHEN A COURT HALTS DUE TO THE ABSENCE OF A JUDGE?

The fact that the judge has recused from the cases arising from the April 14 and 16 incidents raises the question of the justness and fairness of denying those accused bail due to those incidents.

To address the situation, the State should consider discharging and releasing the accused persons for what is essentially politically motivated incidents which could be addressed through mediation and conciliation.

The number of visitors who go to the central prison to see their loved ones because they are remanded in custody is overstretching the prison administration. Many spent hours before they come into contact with their loved ones.

Justice must not only be done, it must also be seen to be done.
